As a smart home hub, HomePod mini 2 brings HomeKit- and Matter-enabled accessories together, with Thread networking technology built in. Built-in sensors monitor temperature and humidity in the room, and Sound Recognition listens for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, sending an alert to your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch. Intercom lets you send a message to the whole house or to individual rooms, and three far-field microphones pick up Siri requests from across the room.
Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 6 and UWB
Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) and Bluetooth 6 keep HomePod mini 2 connected, while an Ultra Wideband chip senses a nearby U1-equipped iPhone so you can hand music over to the speaker. AirPlay streams audio from Apple devices, and the speaker can act as the default speaker for a Mac with Wi-Fi 6E or later. Setting up needs an iPhone or iPad running the latest iOS or iPadOS, together with Wi-Fi internet access.
